David P Griffiths reports: Before the Great Awakening in America (1730-1745) Revivalist Jonathan Edwards had to remove what was known as “The Social Gospel” before the huge community impact towards crime free areas could occur with thousands saved from an eternity in hell.
J. Edwin Orr’s final message given on April 21 1987 declared that “revival was like judgment day”! These words he referred to having been given through W.W. Castle during a revival in China.
Orr pointed out that some see revival as an overflow, a time for hooting & hollering but real revival Orr points out is a time when God exposes all the sins of the Church. After prayer Orr states that there follows conviction of sin, blessing following judgment, Orr referring to Campbell Morgan who pointed out that the Welsh Revival was merited by confession, some very costly.
“Every great revival is marked by judgment” declared Orr. “First in the House of the Lord.” He dismissed the misuse of the scripture “Judge Not” saying that the context of this is a prohibition of hypocrisy rather than judgment itself, Paul judging matters in the Corinthian Church.
Real Revival comes at a massive price and is always accompanied by a hunger for mission. Missionary Hudson Taylor declared: “God gives His Holy Spirit not to those who long for him, not to those who desire to be filled always; He gives His Spirit to those who obey.”
Declared Duncan Campbell of the Hebridean Revival: “A Christian is a supernatural being who has had a supernatural experience, and that is something more than singing choruses; that is something more than making a decision; that is something more than becoming a member of a Church; that is something more than enjoying Conventions. It is Christ at the “centre of my life” referring to Paul’s declaration that to “live is Christ.”
Charles Finney tolerated not the “love gospel” of today in which one dare not mention the judgment of God so prevalent today on rebellious nations and movements. Away with your milk and water preaching of the love of Christ that has no holiness or moral discrimination in it, away with the preaching a Christ not crucified for sin.
In response to what is needed today Rev Robert Barr of South Africa declared: “This is what our age needs, not an easy-moving message, the sort of thing that makes the hearer feel all nice inside, but a message profoundly disturbing. We have been too afraid of disturbing people, but the Holy Spirit will have nothing to do with a message or with a minister who is afraid of disturbing. You might as well expect a surgeon to give place to a quack who claims to be able to do the job with some sweet tasting drug, as expect the Holy Spirit to agree that the tragic plight of human souls today can be met by soft and easy words. Calvary was anything but nice to look at, blood soaked beams of wood, a bruised and bleeding body, not nice to look upon. But then Jesus was not dealing with a nice thing; He was dealing with the sin of the world, and that is what we are called upon to deal with today. Soft and easy words, soft-pedalling will never meet the need.
Dr Inwood at the Keswick Convention in 1924 proclaimed the all-time principle of true revival: Christian men and women, self-renunciation is the cardinal ethic of the Christian Church. Also coming against the softly softly approach to Gospel preaching we commonly see today was John Wesley:
"Give me one hundred men who love only God with all their heart and hate only sin with all their heart, and we will shake the gates of hell and bring in the kingdom of God in one generation."
Identifying the key words of revival which also explain the reluctance of so many to accept positional truth Norman Grubb declared “no independent me” and the transfer from being a ”walking Satan” to being a “walking Christ,” there being one Christ but many members of HIS BODY, HIS FLESH & HIS BONES. These key words of transfer are sin, repentance, the precious blood, cleansing, joy, and witness.
Referring to the nonsense of revival transfer so commonly proclaimed by counterfeit revivalists today, Rees Howells rejected the notion in South Africa saying revival starts in you: …..that it was God who had come down then, moving upon the hearts of men and women, and had swept multitudes into the Kingdom; and that he would do the same with them, if they were willing to repent.
Referring to the six fold commission of Jeremiah 1:10 we are appealing for your help for God has called US OUT OF OUR CAVES to face the prophets of Baal – to fulfil the four fold Commission and then move on to the two fold commission of building and planting.

10 See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.
J Edwin Orr: Of this six-fold commission, four injunctions are destructive and only the latter two are constructive. "To build and to plant" surely a great work. But it had to be preceded by a rooting-out and a pulling-down, destruction and demolishing. Surely this sounds drastic! Yet it was very necessary, as the historical background shows.
The Jewish kingdom had become overgrown with weeds, overbuilt with traditional superstructures. They had to go first. Some iconoclasm was necessary. Some destruction was required.
Let us look in the garden for a parable. We walked round a beautiful garden which occupied a former piece of waste land. The gardener showed us round. "Those are beautiful roses," we said to him. "I planted them," replied the gardener, with justified pride. "What a beautifully-cut hedge," we remarked next. "I trimmed that," he said. "Who is responsible for that lovely Sweet William border?" Again the gardener smiled and claimed the credit. We passed on, thinking to ourselves that this gardener had created a grand testimony to his skill in gardening.
At the garden gate, we found an old fellow watching a smoking heap of refuse. "What have you been doing?" "Working at the garden," he said. "Well, then, what have you to show for your labor?" "Nothing, Sir," he replied. "Then you cannot have been working!" We told him. "Sir," he asserted. "When we came here, this garden was a piece of waste land, overgrown with weeds, full of stones and sand, swampy in one corner, and pretty hopeless all round." We got interested. "Well sir," he went on, "I broke up the land, and I destroyed the weeds, and dug out the stones, and carted away the sand, and it was my job to drain the swampy comer."
We listened with growing appreciation. "I am saying nothing against the other fellow who planted the garden. He did his job well. But where would his planting come in if I hadn't first rooted out and destroyed the weeds?" Both men's labour was necessary, but the rooting out and destruction of weeds preceded the planting of flowers and shrubs.
Let us remember the first work of rooting out the weeds and utterly destroying them. One of the great weaknesses of many forms of ministry today is the attempt to sow good seed among thorns. The thorns generally continue springing up, and the seed is choked thereby, despite the good intention of the human sower. Seed sown in a prepared ground requires only the action of the elements to produce fruit in season. Seed sown by the wayside, or in stony places, or among thorns, will have its prospects of life severely threatened almost immediately. Likewise, changing the mode of illustration, a Christian who is in proper relationship with God is generally hungry for the great truths and affirmations of the Gospel.
A constructive message is then not only desirable, but necessary. Good food, the finest of the cream of the wheat of the Gospel of Christ, is eagerly assimilated by the Christian who lives in harmony with God. Yet all Christians are not in proper relationship with their Lord. The present obvious dearth of revival is largely due to the fact that the majority of Christians are out of touch with the source of Divine power. Even at conventions, the first work needed is to get things put right in the lives of those attending. To give a sick stomach an overdose of cream is to risk indigestion. Even a sick stomach prefers the taste of cream to the flavor of the bitter medicine. Still the bitter medicine is necessary, and it does not prevent the enjoying and digesting of good food afterwards-rather it creates the actual appetite of good health, which is quite distinct from the false cravings of indigestion.
For instance, the glorious message of the position of every believer in Christ is a comfort to many souls. Yet it cannot bring much blessing to a stubborn Christian living in disobedience and conscious sin. He needs to act on the teaching of repentance and confession and cleansing FIRST, and then he may comfort himself with other truths. I heard once of a church which had the cream of doctrine given within its walls, week in, week out. Judging from the quality of uplifting ministry given there, one would have expected to find the church members on the highest heavenly plane. But in this instance, they had a church quarrel which resulted in the bread and wine being spilled in a scuffle, and the police were called in to restore order. They obviously needed more than cream. Medicine was wanted badly.
Positional truth cannot be profitably taught until conditional teaching has had its effect. Cast no pearls before swine. So great is this problem, that when the preacher strikes out against sin among believers and urges purity of life, critics cry "Introspection," and some insist that he is trying to divert the eyes of the people away from Christ towards self and shortcomings.
It was my happy experience once, to speak at a great convention well-known in England. It was arranged with the council members that if blessing came through in the degree hoped for, I would be at liberty to continue for double the time. Beginning with destructive ministry, the Lord used His word to create deep conviction of heart. The place was thronged.
Christians were stirred to confession and repentance, and many souls were saved. By contrast, I was speaking at another convention, not so far away. It was a convention of good standing. I felt led to speak first of the short coming of believers and the need of getting right before enjoying the good things of the feast. The next speakers seemed to doubt the worth of such a method, and their message seemed to be: "You are complete in Christ, so don't worry about these trifles. God accepts you in the Beloved, and you needn't mind." For days there was that cross-current of message. I believed with all my heart in the truth of their message, but I thought that the time was unripe for its application.
With a burdened heart, I prayed for clear guidance regarding continuing my message. The Lord put a text, a "new" text for me, into my heart, and I preached it. Before I preached it, a speaker dwelt on the glorious promises of God, promises meant for obedient children. Then followed my opportunity. "Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God" (2 Cor. 7:1). It gave the connection at last, but we had no great revival. It drove home many truths to me. Let us comfort one another with the grand truths of our position in Christ. But let us not make excuse by saying that our "completeness" in Him permits us to wink at known sin.

“The Background to Revival”
Introduction to the Prophecy
“‘The background to revival has come after a dream of a Mr Carson of Chester conducting a Revival Meeting, for this was no ordinary meeting. People were bowing down towards God, & crying out to God, & the background to this meeting was out & out surrender to the Lord Jesus; & it was clear that many there were prepared to give their lives to the Lord. It was full surrender, at a level that there was much activity in the meeting, & Mr Carson was going around encouraging this activity.
“But then, by one wall, lined up, was about 4 people, & one girl from amongst these people said to me, ‘What can God do for me?’ & I remember saying, ‘Nothing, unless you place Jesus first, to seek first the kingdom of God & His righteousness, then all one’s needs will be added unto, because you have to place Him first!’
“A clear message is coming out here. Revival will come from a meeting where those present have given their whole lives to Jesus Christ, from whatever background.
“The requirement is full surrender. God has not changed. But standing in the outer court will be those looking on, unable to give their all, & these are those who go to Church today, looking for God to meet their need. The go week after week, looking to be prayed for. Yet they have not given their whole lives to the Lord.
“They look to be made a fuss of; & this girl in this dream was there to have her needs met. But those being blessed in the meeting were those who came to meet the needs of God. Thus revival was occurring in a meeting being run by Mr Carson of Chester, an unlikely revival to the present-day Charismatic, who sees revival as God meeting the needs of themselves, yet real revival comes through people fully surrendered to the Lord, who look to meet His needs first, who become the empty vessel for God to take over, with those who lay everything down to the Lord. But on the outside will be those who ask the question, ‘Can God meet my need, the answer being, ‘No,’ for God’s promises are conditional, & ‘Amen & amen,’ to those who have given their lives to Him.
“This was the element of this revival. Yet there was a person standing on the outside, who still looked to have her need met, but was unaware that this is a covenant God, who demands our life, our all, so that the blessings of Abraham may flow through the seed, & that those who have truly repented, given their whole lives to the Lord Jesus, can fully expect the manifestation of God’s glory, something the present-day Pharisees will chase after for their benefit rather than for God’s, & the reason why Mr Carson, & indeed yourselves, are disliked, is because you are placing the needs of God above the needs of man; & it is the devil who has placed the emphasis on God meeting man’s needs first, hence the Community Church movement, hence the Christian Centre movement, for true revival cannot come through such operations, revival only coming through those who understand covenant. For as we give our whole selves to Him, He gives His whole self to us. But this can only come to those who seek first the kingdom of God & His righteousness, not to those coming to Church to have their own need met, but to those coming to Church to meet God’s need rather than their own.
“Exodus 15:26 is at the root of this. Will you hearken & obey the Lord today? For if you do, this is how true revival comes. Are you willing to pay the price?
“In this meeting with Mr Carson, the people were there who were willing to pay the price. But a small line of people on the outside, looking to have their own need met, & on the outside they stayed, then walked away sorrowfully, for these proceedings went against everything they knew, for they had been brought up with false revival, rather than understanding of the Bible, who demands that man gives one’s all to the Saviour, one’s life being not one’s own, for the true believer is bought with a price, & those who follow the Lord have to do the same, for we are dealing with a covenant God.
“It is on these, the true Church, fully surrendered, that revival will come.”

Revivals in Wales have always been linked to a great Missionary Surge reaching the whole world with the Gospel. After many years ministering in North Wales we know this God Given Biblical teaching is the most controversial. We have "churches" who see themselves as a separate entity to God with altars made with hands, with seeker friendly "evangelism" courses like Alpha and Toronto/Lakeland style "revivals" with their roots in charismatic Roman Catholicism rather then God & in this we include Cwmbran that seems more intent on ministering to the people rather than God
Its time to get a hold of REAL REVIVAL for this is ALL HIM and not thee!!!!!!!!!

Point I : If you are a dead man – then who is left?
The real revivalists knew what this was all about. Please read their stories, their testimonies, grasp what was in their hearts, reject the "new thing" beliefs of the new revivals and come back to the real heart of revival - being as HIM - dead to self!
I Cor.6:17; Eph.5:30; Jer. 3:14: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Point II: Joined unto the Lord – members of his body, flesh and bones! Holiness!
What a remarkable statement, no room for individuality here, no room for communion rails between man, priesthood and God - only complete union of the Bridegroom with his bride. In North Wales we have had those come with the human perspective of gender roles and in one sense there are gender roles but in this sense there is complete union - as one in Christ Jesus - the bride at one with the bridegroom - GLORY!
Rom. 12:1: I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God,
which is your reasonable service.
Point III: What do we present holy?
When "ye" is used in scripture we talk of the corporate sense meaning the whole body - as Sylvia Pearce says in Louisville - "the whole Gospel to the whole man." The whole Gospel involves a complete union one in Christ Jesus our bodies being a "living sacrifice."
I John 4:17: Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
We have had professing Christians come to us in North Wales who see themselves as a separate entity to God and use the name of Jesus in ministry not understanding what this means. It means only a union, a complete oneness in Christ Jesus, the fullness of the Godhead - not man at all - but Christ!
Point IV: As He is–So Are we?
Rom. 8:17; Gal. 4:7: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
"Joint" means equal, completely equal and those with this revelation all over the world have greatly suffered, but suffering is the pre-requisite to glory - but this being equal has to be understood when it comes to ministry for without this revelation revealed by the Spirit - the individual is just a son of Sceva - having to face all the consequences of that & we have witnessed this happening right here in an area that for too long has been deprived of the true Gospel.
Point V: What does being equal mean?
Rom 11: For if the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: and if the root be holy, so are the branches.
We need to get a hold of the fact that without the branches, the root cannot flourish and to flourish the branches have to be of the same stock, the same breed as the root. One cannot graft sin unto the Father, there has to be the blood washed branch, completely clean, completely whole in him to be AS HE IS!
Point VI: The name of the Head of the Church is JESUS as is the NAME OF THE BODY
John 15: 5-7: I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
The "Church" in North Wales seems to have an identity crisis not realising that the Church is not a denomination, not a fellowship, not an ecumenical grouping looking to bring "churches" together, not a building - but is actually is HIM!
Point VII: If we are the branches or the lump – how can we bear a different name?
Matt. 5:48; 19:21; II Tim. 3:16,17; Eph. 4:11,12; Phil.2:5; Eph.4:24; Col. 1:27-29; I Peter 1:16; 5:10; Heb. 6:1; 10:14; James 1:4: But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
Human endeavour cannot bring about perfection. This comes through complete death to self and this can be a process, a realisation that as ourselves we can do nothing. This is brokenness revival, the dead man being revived to live perfect as Christ Jesus!
Point VIII: We are called to be perfect - they hate this as they lie in their Calvinistic state of total depravity - an excuse for sin - in HIM, AS HIM is perfection!
II Peter 1:4; Col. 1:12; Rom. 8:30; Heb. 3:14: For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
Being made a "partaker of Christ" means being a partaker of His Divinity. Sin cannot grasp this, a man in depravity cannot grasp this but a dead man can, the empty vessel filled, the anointing upon all this makes the man no longer a man but as the Saviour is. ("man" covers both physical genders)
Point IX: Being a partaker of Christ is perfection which is why we "perfect" the saints for the work of the ministry - not "equip"?
John 1:12-14; I Peter 1:23; I Cor 3:16-23; 2 Peter 1:3-5:
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
The Word is declaring that we are called to glory and virtue - meaning anointing as HE WAS and IS as US!
Point X: Partakers of the Divine Nature and Glorified!
